Boomtown Festival 2017 – Nextfest Preview

Pretty much anyone that goes to festivals will have heard of Boomtown. The festival, which is now entering its ninth year, has built itself up from humble beginnings back in 2006, to a truly outstanding level of production that is potentially unrivalled by any other festival, in the UK at least.

2017 sees Boomtown returning to the Matterley Estate, a stone’s throw away from Winchester, in Hampshire. The estate will be split into four distinct areas, with each area split into districts. The site is broken down into HilltopDowntownTemple Valley, and Whistlers Green.

Each of these four areas comprises several districts, each with its own theme, so we have, Town CentreTrenchtownOldtownWild West, Mayfair, Whistlers Green, KidztownForest PartiesSector-6DSTRKT 5, Barrio Loco, and Chinatown.

All of the districts are then further broken down into stages and hidden venues, the kind of thing you happen across when you’re stumbling around searching for a toilet. Anyway, we’re not here to discuss loo breaks, we’re here to discuss the music! We’ve had a gander at the lineup and come up with some recommendations of artists we think you will enjoy…

If rave is your flava, then you know you’ll be at home checking out absolute rave royalty, 2 Bad Mice. Famed for their hardcore sound, the pair are cited as being one of the first acts on the UK hardcore scene to start utilising breakbeats in their play style. You’ll almost certainly know their track, Bombscare. Get your horns and whistles ready!

For a dancehall bruk out, Mr. Vegas is one of the most likely to provide such an experience. The Kingston riddim master is known for his debut track Nike Air, which was reportedly recorded with a broken jaw. What a trooper! Mr. Vegas has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the business including U-RoyShaggy, and Barrington Levy.

For something a little more out of the ordinary, then Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 will be right up your street. The wacky band defy genres to create their own style of music, which is always exciting to watch and equally as entertaining. If you’ve never seen a band riding around on top of the crowd on a giant inflatable unicorn, then you haven’t lived.

The festival is a family friendly one, as suggested by the inclusion of Kidztown. This means your little boomers can be just as entertained as you are at Boomtown 2017. There will be face painting, as well as a selection of music to delight the small ones. Think Boomtown if it was downgraded to a hamlet and you kind of get the idea.
