Eastern Electrics Festival 2017 – Nextfest Preview

One day music festivals have become very de rigueur over the past decade, and none so much as Eastern Electrics, one of London (and the UK’s) most eagerly anticipated dance music festivals.

August the 5th will see the festival taking over Morden Park for a full day of ‘bangers’. With artists such as techno royalty Carl Cox and progressive house legend Steve Lawler playing, you can really gauge the calibre of DJ you can expect to catch a glimpse of.

It is arguable that several of the facets of festivals nowadays are rooted in the 80s/90s rave culture. These, of course, were illegal and posed a problem for the government (at least, here in the UK) perhaps because they fear like-minded people coming together under a common cause, even if that cause is dance music and the enjoyment thereof.

Licensed one-day festivals have partially picked that mantle up. They offer ticket holders the opportunity to leave go of their troubles for 12 hours and lose themselves in an experience like no other.

Eastern Electrics is one such festival and, with the wealth of electronic artists available to indulge your senses, you can experience a snippet of certain elements of rave culture.

There are so many brilliant DJs and producers playing, that it has been a tough job for us to select recommendations for you! However, we’re dedicated bods here at Nextfest, so we’ve uhm-ed and ahh-ed and finally whittled it down to a select few.

First up you should DEFINITELY check out Art Department‘s set. Art Department AKA Canadian producer Jonny White, has been a formidable force on the underground dance scene for a number of years now. Originally kicking off the side project in 2009, White has received a number of high-profile accolades in reference to his work, which have included Beatport‘s Track of the Year. If you want an example of just how incredible an Art Department set can be, then check out his recent appearance at Tomorrowland for Elrow.

Without a doubt, you have to get a load of acid house pioneer, DJ Pierre. This man has been responsible for some of the most recognisable acid house tracks since the inception of the sound. He has worked tirelessly to push the house music scene, in particular, acid house, and so you’ve got the opportunity to check out a genuine legend here. Do it.

Get over to the Star of EE stage and check out what Rinse FM have got to offer, as they’re bringing some of the hottest stars on the bass scene to the festival, including My Nu LengSir Spyro, and ONEMAN.

In all, Eastern Electrics is offering something very exciting to attendees. We don’t envy the decisions you will have to make on the day though, with so much to see!
