Montrose Music Festival (MoFest) takes place in the last week of May each year in Montrose, Angus. It is run by volunteers and actively promotes local acts alongside established musicians from across the United Kingdom and beyond.
Each year the festival opens with the headlining act, which provides the income to make the rest of the weekend free to the public.
This year’s opening headliner will be Deacon Blue, and The Beach Boys will headline Sunday night. These will both take place at East Links Arena and will be the only gigs that require a purchased ticket.
The first MoFest took place in 2008 and was an overwhelming success, bringing thousands of visitors to the town. The main attraction at the inaugural festival was the Friday night opening concert by the legendary Average White Band
On Saturday and Sunday attendees have the chance to pick from around 200 gigs in over 25 venues across the town. The “Big Stage” (situated on Montrose’s High Street) is where you will see showcase performances from a variety of acts. This is always hugely popular with families of all ages coming out to enjoy the music and the many stalls and activities.
As the venues wind down on Sunday evening, Mofest hosts “Survivors Night” where people can enjoy a well earned rest and enjoy some impromptu music, laughs and drinks at the end of the festival weekend.
Montrose’s unique urban layout makes it the ideal location for this type of event, with most venues within walking distance of each other.
