Lovebox Festival 2017 – Nextfest Preview

East London’s Victoria Park is getting ready to bring the party, as Lovebox is coming to town on July 14-15.

The line-up is, quite honestly, mindblowing, as a shedload of the underground dance scene’s top artists are being drafted in alongside Frank Ocean, Jamie xx and Chase & Status to help the brand celebrate 15 years at the pinnacle of its game.

The Lovebox event was originally started by a very well known duo, Groove Armada, who were becoming disillusioned by the party scene in and around London. So, in 2002, they released an album and started putting on parties around the capital.

In 2003, they put on a 10,000 capacity party on Clapham Common, and then in 2004 it was 20,000. The following year, 2005, the party shifted to Victoria Park, and the Lovebox you enjoy today was in full swing.

Previous festivals have seen the likes of MyloBooka Shade, and Mr Doggystyle himself, Snoop Dogg. This year doesn’t do anything to change that formula – Lovebox are doing exactly what they do best…bringing the love with one hell of a party.

So, who’s on? Well…it may be a more pertinent question to ask “who isn’t on?” You’ll definitely want to be checking out a bit of DJ EZ while you’re down at the festival. The London garage DJ knows how to throw down a beat or two (he has been in the game for in excess of 20 years, now). If you don’t feel the energy produced by a DJ EZ set, then you frankly must be devoid of soul.

In addition to EZ, you should also cop a load of DJ Jazzy Jeff. The former Fresh Prince of Bel Air star has long been a mainstay on the party scene. His DJ sets are off the chain, as he throws down banger after banger, making sure that each and every person present is sweating it out.

We also recommend checking out Ricardo Villalobos on the Fabric Stage. The Chilean minimal techno and microhouse producer is a force to be reckoned with behind the decks and will get everyone fidgeting as he builds his set in a series of wonderfully textured layers.

There are loads more DJs to be getting your groove on to. Seth TroxlerRichy Ahmed, and Bicep are joined by Eats EverythingChase and Status, and Norman Jay MBE. Expect big things from every single one of the DJs and producers present at the Lovebox Festival.

There is plenty in terms of hospitality at the event as well. You can choose to stick with the hoi-polloi and grab your drinks from the regular bar, or you can step it up a notch in the Bohemia hospitality arena, which serves complimentary food and drinks, as well as having its own luxury areas to enjoy the festival from.
