The Social Festival 2017 – Nextfest Preview
“Haaaappy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Biiiiiiirrrtttthday dear The Social Festival at Kent County Showground between 29th and 30th September featuring top class electronic artiiiiiiists, Happyyy Birthdayyyyy toooooooo Yyouuuuuu”.
Sorry, but sometimes we simply have to deliver our preview introductions via the medium of song. Especially when our preview is for a festival that, this year, hits is 5th anniversary. That’s right, The Social Festival is five, and there seems to be no stopping the cheeky little whippersnapper as it fires awesome artist filled mortars all over the dancefloor at Kent County Showground.
The festival seems to have gone from strength to strength since its inaugural event back in 2013. It has been a draw for some of the scene’s best artists since inception and, this year, they have well and truly gone all-out to bring you some of the most sought-after acts to help celebrate their quintennial.
They have enlisted the assistance of some close friends to host the various areas of the fezzie. The Meadow is hosted Ibizan party-starters, Resistance, on Friday and Saturday. While London clubbing megabrand, Fabric, will be taking on The Barn on Saturday.
So, we mentioned there will be some absolutely incredible artists playing. Well, we weren’t lying to you, you know. Friday sees none other than Carl Cox headlining The Meadow. You know all about Carl, though, don’t you? You know, the London figurehead of dance music, who was pushing the boundaries on the acid house, techno, hardcore breakbeat, and early trance scenes while you were still soiling yourself and sitting in your own mess? Well, he will be obliterating your ears with his no-nonsense approach to DJing with probably one of the best house and techno sets you’re ever likely to witness.
If electro is more your bag, then go and get a load of the inimitable Helena Hauff, who the legendary Fabric have pulled out of the bag to bring you one of her extra special sets. Cutting her teeth at Hamburg nightclub, The Golden Pudel, Helena is a consistently brilliant DJ who really knows her onions when it comes to dropping seriously underground electro tracks into her sets. If you want an example of what she can do, then check out her Boiler Room. Seriously packed with killer traxxxx.
Progressive your thing? Alright, well you’re covered for that too. Sasha and Digweed will be making their way down to The Meadow with their own very special brand of tech-infused progressive house. These two really know how to put on a show. They will be providing their captive audience with an out-and-out sonic journey of epic proportions. Expect big things because if any two DJs know how to bounce off each other, it’s these two.
Black Coffee will be bringing his African house sound to The Stables on the Saturday. Injecting heaps of soul into his sets, he is sure to get you lot moving.
Tickets for The Social Festival are still available, so grab yours and head down there for the party to well and truly top off your summer.
